Pebeo Seascapes

And now for something a little different ....

On Thursday we had a Pebeo class

Pebeo are acrylic paints with a high viscosity that can be used on boards, canvas and also glass.

You can create great effects with their fantasy paints and watch them bleed into the other paint you've already put down.

More information on the paints can be found here

They are easily available from places such as Hobbycraft.

Today's theme was all about Seascapes, making blue sea effects of waves, rolling skies and becoming mesmerised as the paintings developed in their own way (and time!)

We stopped for lunch allowing some of them to dry, it takes about 24-48 hours for them to dry, or DAYS if you add alot of paint and alot of layers!

Claire is now heading off to teach at Marlborough Summer School, but once she has finished we will be announcing our Autumn term dates and subjects.

Acrylics and Collage Class

Friday was our new class - Acrylics and Collage with Claire Warner.

Our artists bought photos, images, sand and shells with them to help create their pictures.

They worked on a canvas board, attached to cardboard.

Claire demonstrated the various techniques needed.

It may be quite hard to see on the blog but some of the pictures do have real photos and magazine/paper cuttings glued on to them.

The shells below were attached to texture paste to build up around them.

Everyone really enjoyed using the acrylics in this way, mixing the paints to match the colours of their images to help blend them together.

If you look closely at the birds below you will see they started as torn out pieces from a newspaper

Below is an unfinished painting, we thought it was a great idea, to incorporate the artist's grandchildren into a painting.  Hopefully we will get to see the finished painting.

Below is my favourite beach shot from last week's trip to the 'Wild' South West!

Not the best week of weather to go, but a great excuse to sit by the fires on lovely sofas!

Acrylic Seascapes

Today was fun, busy, noisy and really creative.

We did this class a few years ago and I loved it.  It reminded me of playschool!  White PVA glue, the little plastic glue spreaders, crumpled tissue paper ..... brilliant!

Our artists dropped some vibrant acrylics inks onto the paper, dried it and then added glue and crumpled tissue, the next stage was rolling out the tissue, so that there were no air bubbles.

Here is Claire demonstrating another layer of colour, creating the idea of water and waves.

Today's key message was to remember to stand back and look at your painting now and again, as otherwise you sit on top of it and can lose perspective.

Here is the gallery of the fantastic paintings:

Below is the mixer full of lovely smelly herbs and tasty ingredients that I turned into a salsa verde to accompany our salmon at lunch, it smelt gorgeous.

Winter Seascapes Watercolour Class

This week was our final week of term for Watercolour, so we chose a Winter Seascape and a Winter Landscape, several people came to both and created some great works of art.

This seascape picture was full of atmosphere, dramatic dark skies, roaring waves and spray, and if you look carefully there are several seagulls spotted about.

We used 300lb Saunders Waterford paper, it's really thick and heavy so can hold alot of water, which is very useful when using today's wet on wet technique.

There were some lovely reflections in the sand.

Below are some teeny little paintings Andrea did, it's great to see people having a play with paint!

Today's class was especially good because out of all of these amazing paintings, we had someone who was a complete beginner and two ladies who had only been with us once on a Beginner Class!  Great achievements!

A Windy Seascape Watercolour Class

Back to the paint palettes today for another Windy Painting class, today we focussed on Seascapes.

We spent time applying masking fluid and also some fantastic texture paste for the rocks.

Like yesterday's class, we had to think about movement with each brush stroke.

Our first wash involved putting an orange and yellow sky to create some lovely "lights", then later on once it had dried, we went over the top with darker blue and purple shades, but alllowed some of our lights to peep through.  It was a really good effect.

After lunch we worked on our waves, very tricky!

The colours we used today were great, especially the blues and greens that we mixed for the seas.

Bookings are being taken for next term.
