Spring Flowers Watercolour

We welcomed 9 artists to Treetops today for our Spring Flowers Workshop, our first painting was of some pretty primroses coming through the undergrowth.

Claire demonstrates in stages, after the initial faint drawing and placing of the flowers, a little bit of masking fluid and mixing of paints, the above photo shows the first wash.

After a rest away from the paintings as we let them dry, we moved into the Hall for a delicious lunch of kedgeree, slow roasted tomatoes and a watercress & mandarin salad, followed by a delicious gingerbread cake, poached pears and vanilla creme fraiche desert.  And for some a much needed glass of wine!

After lunch, the artists embarked on a looser and freer crocus painting

Thanks everyone for coming, see you again

£10 from each sale goes to Hospice UK

It's a while since I updated you all with what's going on at Treetops this term, plenty behind the scenes and we look forward to welcoming Claire and our painters back from March.

We have 1 space left on our Spring Flowers Watercolour class on Thursday 2 March, suitable for all levels of artists.  The class runs from 9:30am until approximately 3pm.  All of your materials are included so you just need to bring yourself.  Also included is a delicious lunch with a glass of wine.

Other classes coming up with Claire include:

Beginners & Refreshers class on Tuesday 4 April

In the Med on Tuesday 11 May

All our classes with Claire cost £85

Proving very popular at the moment is our Online Snowdrop Watercolour Workshop, we put this together in aid of Hospice UK and to support the National Garden Scheme's Snowdrop Festival 2023.

It is suitable for everyone, and is shorter than our other online workshops at just under an hour, and it only uses 4 watercolour paints.

Claire shows you how to sketch and paint these beautiful little flowers.  Covering how to apply masking fluid, mix paints, apply washes, think about your back ground, mid ground and foreground, and the finishing touches such as shadows.

The Online Workshop costs £15 with £10 going directly to Hospice UK.

We also put together a Snowdrop Materials Box with everything in that you need for the Workshop, you can buy this separately in our Shop

Spring Flowers Watercolour

A really colourful day surrounded by very pretty Spring Flowers

We were painting Flowers from still life today, there were an assortment of pretty jugs and pots filled with daffodils, tulips, roses and foliage.

Claire explained about the various shapes of flowers such as trumpets, cups and saucer, and let us play with the flowers to help create our perfect little arrangement.  Top tips were to angle the daffodil and to show the centre of the rose.

We sketched with pencil first, and then used some masking fluid to protect some of our defined edges before painting our first background wash.

After lunch we painted the flowers and foliage.  We then had a subtle background and a bright and beautiful foreground, so we had to work on our mid-tones and add some colour to blend the two together.

To finish we painted the jugs and added our shadows.

Here are our paintings:

At the end of the day, Claire puts the paintings into mounts and we have a small gallery, they looked great!
