Sunflowers in Watercolour

Last week we held a bright and beautiful Sunflowers class with Claire Warner and I was really pleased that Sophie from 'A Boat Full of Wool' wore her amazing dungarees!

We used watercolours, texture paste and tiny beads

Beginners Watercolour Sunflowers

Yesterday we held a Beginners and Refreshers Watercolour Class and also celebrated a special birthday.

It really was a very sunny fun day full of Sunflowers.

Claire talked through papers, brushes, paints etc before the artists settled down to practice with colours and mixing, before starting their painting.

The artists were also introduced to masking fluid and texture paste, the paste is excellent for creating the petals.

There were also tiny beads to stick into the paste for the centre of the Sunflowers.

After the first wash of background colours, it was time for lunch, to give the paintings time to dry.

Lunch was Nigel Slaters Chicken and Deliciously Ella's Salad, full of fresh and seasonal flavours.

Here are the finished works of art, they will look lovely on everyone's walls this Summer!

Sunflowers Watercolour Class

Wednesday was great fun with our Sunflowers Watercolour class, we haven't done Sunflowers for a years, so it great to do.

We started positioning our Sunflowers and then masked around the flowers edges.

We used acrylic texture paste to add texture on the petals!  

Then we stuck small clear acrylic beads into the centres.

We had to ensure that everything was really dry before we added our wash

We use a great thick paper from St Cuthberts Mill (in Somerset) so it is able to hold alot of water without losing it's flat surface.

Classes run from 9.30am - until approximately 3pm

All of Claire's classes cost £70 (except for Pebeo in June which costs £75)

This includes all of your painting materials, refreshments throughout the day and a delicious home-cooked two course lunch with a glass of wine. 

Artists of all abilities can join the classes, we take no more than 10 students, so you receive plenty of attention and Claire teaches in a great step by step style.  You will take home a finished painting.

A Sunny Sunflowers Class

We started our class today, very leisurely in the morning sunshine!

It was lovely to have some sunny bright sunflowers to paint, with everyone choosing a variety of layouts.

We used an acrylic texture paste today for the petals and some glass beads in the centres, these were applied with palette knives and looked really effective.
