Pen & Wash Class - Lake District

On Monday we welcomed 10 artists for a Pen and Wash Class.

Claire had chosen a lovely bridge in the Lake District near Borrowdale in Keswick as the focus.

Time was spent on the layout and placement of the bridge and setting, before trialling different ways of using the pen, whether it was through lines, cross hatching, dotting and shading, and with different thickness of pen.  It's a very relaxing process.

After lunch, everyone mixed their paints ready to apply gentle washes across their picture.

For lunch we enjoyed a warming Smoky Chicken Stew, from  BBC Good Food Magazine, served with lovely fresh Treetops baked sourdough.  Followed by warm Gingerbread Cake and clotted cream ice cream.

Here is the Gallery of pictures from the day.

Our Spring and Summer Dates are now available to book on the website!

Latest September News from Treetops

Hello Everyone
We've missed you

Thank you to all of you who have kept in touch during our closed period, it's been very strange not having you at Treetops for our classes.

We will be staying closed a little while longer whilst things settle down from Covid, as I want you all to be able to enjoy your relaxing Treetops day in the 'good old days' style!

I hope you've all managed to stay well and busy, perhaps picked up a new hobby or two? I've been mastering some jigsaws and making pictures with shells from my trips to Cornwall.

Claire and I have got together a few times and we are working on something fantastic to share with you shortly!

Keep an eye on your emails, the Treetops website, blog and facebook for when we make our announcement.

If you have created some artwork during lockdown and you would like to share it with us, I will be putting together a blog post shortly and would love to have a photo of it.

Best wishes Emily

Lazy Summer Days Watercolour Class

For our last painting class of this term, Claire chose Lazy Summer Days in Watercolour.

There was some tricky drawing to start with, the huts, their steps and perspective!

But after that, the lovely washes for the skies and sand were much more relaxing, followed by the blue sea rippling onto the shore.

Lunch today was delicious Salmon with fennel and tomato

served with giant couscous with feta, onion and sun dried tomatoes

and a chicory, pomegranate and pumpkin seed salad

The pudding of meringues, cream, greek yoghurt, strawberries, raspberries and blueberries went so fast, I didn't get time for a photo!

At the end of the class, it was great to see the works of art displayed in mounts, so we could see one another's paintings.

Have a great summer everyone, the Autumn term dates will be out shortly.

Monet's Garden in Oils

Today we had an Oils class, these classes have become increasingly popular.

Our theme was Monet's Garden, full of beautiful colours and reflections.

After coffee, Claire spoke about painting in Oils and then demonstrated some techniques to help with the days painting.

Below are some of our students hard at work

They used brushes and palette knives to apply the paint to the canvas.

For some this was their first time ever painting in oils.

Below is a display of the finished paintings:

Lunch today was Chicken Caprese, full of flavour with pesto, mozzarella, basil and tomato.  Served with fresh bread and a spinach and rocket salad.

Below was our vegetarian option, a spinach and tortellini cheese bake.

And pudding was a creamy (soaked overnight) Tiramisu!

And they all managed to return to the painting table after that and carry on!

A really successful day.
