Water Lily Pond Oils Class

Our Oils class was bright and beautiful, we painted Water Lilies amongst a vibrant green and blue pond, the end results were brilliant.

We all had such a lovely day, the majority of our artists had not painted with Oils before and they really enjoyed themselves.

Claire starts the class with a full demonstration of the painting for everyone to watch, before they start to put paint on the canvas.

As you can see they are all so different, I love this shade of pink with the green and blue.

Below is our family trio out to spend a lovely day together, we also had another mother and daughter come together too.

Lunch was Scandi Salmon, which was delicious followed by a pear and chocolate crumble.

We will definitely be holding another Oils Class next year, so look out for the date.

Cornish Harbour Watercolour Class

It's been a busy month at Treetops so far, so I am catching up on my blog posts.

These photos are from our Cornish Harbour Watercolour Class with Claire on 1 November.  We also used a fine black marker towards the end to highlight certain areas of the painting.

We started with a gentle pencil sketch of the Harbour

Followed by a gentle first wash of paint.

Some of you may recognise the harbour as St Ives

We had some colourful boats and some beautiful water painted.

Lunch today was a delicious lamb and apricot tagine served with flatbreads.

Thank you everyone for coming it was a lovely day.

Rockies Stormy Skies and Seas Class

We welcomed our Rockies group from Wokingham, back again for another fun art day.

Claire had some amazing photos from West Bay in Bridport.

There were some lovely washes to start with, the beach in naples yellow, light red and then burnt umber.

The sky was for the artists to create with their chosen colours such as naples yellow, cobalt blue and light red.

After the first wash had dried, there was a second wash on the sea which was cerulean mixed with indigo.

The key was then to keep the light colours from the first wash in the sky and build up the dark stormy clouds wet in wet style.

Light red and cobalt to create a lovely purple hue, indigo and a mix of ultramarine blue with burnt umber.  These stormy colours were only diluted with water slightly, so that the colours stayed dark.

Hard at work!

I love the colour card created below

Drying some of the washes with a hairdryer

After lunch everyone had the chance to try a smaller painting with the skills learnt earlier in the day.

Lunch was a delicious lamb and cranberry tagine, with pistachios, yoghurt and mint.

Squash salad

Giant couscous and quinoa salad with almonds, lemon and parsley

A lovely day, with some occasional festive singing!

Our Pebeo Paints Class

Sorry for the delay in posting this term's classes on the blog, I've got a new computer and it's taken me a while to work out how the photos work on here!

Our first class of the term was a new one;

Pebeo Paints

They are acrylic paints with a high viscosity and can be used on glass and also on boards and canvas.

You can create great effects with the fantasy paints and watch them bleed into the other paint you've put down.

Claire demonstrated to the group, before they were let loose with their choice of colours

We had a break for lunch before continuing into the afternoon

Here is our finished artwork ready to go home ...

(Pebeo paints aren't quite dry for 24 hours so we had our gallery after the class on the hall floor!)

Beautiful butterflies, kingfishers, experimental patterns and a seascape

A busy day!
