Summer Flowers with Susanna

The kitchen at Treetops was full of beautiful flowers today because Susanna from Tiger Rose Floral Design was here for our Summer Flowers class.

To start with Susanna showed everyone how to make a hand-tied posy using some lovely pastel flowers, mixed with foliage and rosemary.

Following a variety of ideas, Susanna then showed everyone how to create their arrangement.

Then it was time to choose the flowers .....

Using a bulb bowl filled with oasis, which everyone covered with either ribbon, ivy or foliage, the filling of flowers started .....

Here is Susanna's example, she used rosemary around the edge of her bowl and filled it with shades of lilac, cream and purple.

Pretty jam jars full of pretty flowers.

Some stunning peachy carnations, peach is a very fashionable colour this season.

After lunch, Susanna put together a beautiful boxed arrangement with roses and the carnations.

My favourite Peonies, I love them!

Susanna made a tall striking arrangement, with the flowers held in by blossom and foliage stems.

Ivy and clematis montana was wound around the stem of the vase and tucked into a fantastic wreath of yet more peonies.

A real showstopper!

Here are the finished arrangements

Susanna will be back for Christmas Flowers in December.

Summer Flowers 21 May

Susanna returns to Treetops on Tuesday 21 May for a Summer Flowers class.

Come and learn about cutting, conditioning and arranging flowers and foliage.

We use flowers from the garden as well as shop and supermarket bought ones.

Susanna demonstrates some striking, innovative, contemporary and traditional arrangements.

After morning coffee, you will all make an arrangement to take home with you, with lots of help and support from Susanna.

Following a light lunch, there is time for one more demonstrated idea from Susanna, in the past we have made corsages, decorated vintage tins and made small seed head gift tags.

Susanna provides all the flowers and floristry materials for the day, so you don't need to bring anything with you.

The class runs from 9.45am - 2pm and costs £80

(Bookings are being taken for our Christmas Flowers classes on Tuesday 3 and Wednesday 4 December 2013).

Sunny Flower Class

It was lovely to have Susanna from Tiger Rose back today, for a Spring/Summer Flower Class.

Susanna started the morning with a few demonstrations, including the beautiful lavender basket above.
There were beautiful peonies and sweet peas nestled inside.

We spoke alot about plants in the garden that are useful to plant for foliage and their flower, and how to condition and look after our cut flowers, whether from the garden or the flower shop.

Susanna then showed everyone how to make a pretty hand-tied posy.

The key was in the preparation; clean stems, key flowers, secondary flowers and complementary foliage.

We had some bright gerberas, hyacinths and frilly tulips.

When everyone had finished their posy, Susanna showed them how to wrap the arrangement in a water-bag and co-ordinating tissue paper and cellophane.

The posies were then popped inside a vibrant green bag.

They looked stunning!

After lunch we had some creative time around the table.

Susanna had spoken in the morning about using different containers around the house for flowers, not just our usual vases.

Taking this a step further, she had an assortment of jam jars and tin cans for us to decorate for flowers.  (This is a look that is currently very popular at weddings).

Using strong carpet tape (today's floral top tip!) and an array of ribbons, lace, buttons, a needle and thread and a hot glue gun, there were some beautiful creations.

Below are just some shots of some of today's flowers, they were so pretty.
