Spring has Sprung Watercolour

End of term with our 10 artists, painting a Yorkshire Landscape

After drawing the scene some gentle washes were applied, followed by some masking of the daffodils (which can be seen above in blue)

Once the painting had been completed, the artists were able to rub off their masking fluid and drop in some yellows, oranges and greens to create the fresh daffodils on the banks of the river.

Lunch today was chicken with bacon, basil, tomato and goat's cheese

accompanied by a rice and lentil chopped salad with olive oil and lemon dressing.

Next term's dates can be found HERE

A Misty Morning Watercolour

We had some very atmospheric paintings last week.

Claire suggested that the artists used a limited palette of colours

and those who paint with us regularly to try colours that they don't usually use

So we had some beautiful shades created from
Quinacridome Magenta, Cobalt Violet, Quinacridome Gold and Cerulean Blue, all paints from the SAA

The cobwebs below were created by some very patient application of masking fluid!

Winter Scene Watercolour 1

One of most popular classes each year is Winter Scene, it's so popular we have to hold two classes.

Winter colours are really interesting, creating a feeling of cold, frost and atmosphere.  Claire shows how even when the world is white and snowy, that you can still see the colours in the snow.

Today's picture was a beautiful river and barge boat scene.

Our artists are busy above taking notes of all the colours needed for the early stages of the painting.

Their first stage was to mask out the very white areas before they brushed over their first watercolour wash.

Here are the finished works of art!

At the end of each class, Claire displays them in a mount and we have a gallery of paintings to admire.  They are all so different despite starting from the same idea.

The Rockies Return ....

This photo sums up our class yesterday, lots of laughter and fun!

Along with tons of drawing, perspective and lines ... before anyone was allowed to pick up a paintbrush!

It was lovely to celebrate a shared birthday of both our tutor Claire and Maggie, who came with her Wokingham Rock Choir friends.
