Cornish Harbour Watercolour Class

 

It's been a busy month at Treetops so far, so I am catching up on my blog posts.

These photos are from our Cornish Harbour Watercolour Class with Claire on 1 November.  We also used a fine black marker towards the end to highlight certain areas of the painting.

We started with a gentle pencil sketch of the Harbour

Followed by a gentle first wash of paint.  

Some of you may recognise the harbour as St Ives

We had some colourful boats and some beautiful water painted.

Lunch today was a delicious lamb and apricot tagine served with flatbreads.

Thank you everyone for coming it was a lovely day.

Sunsets Watercolour - St Michael's Mount

Last week we had a great group in to paint Watercolour Sunsets.

Claire had chosen St Michael's Mount in Cornwall as the image.

After the drawing, everyone mixed up their paints before laying out their washes.

The finished paintings were full of glow and atmosphere

We had a delicious lunch of Fish & Fennel Stew served with home made sourdough bread and some summer fruit sundaes to finish.

It was a Bucks-Fizz celebratory lunch as it was Claire's birthday the following day and there were some beautifully painted cards given ...

I managed to get a photo of everyone with Claire before they went home.

Thank you everyone for coming, it was a great day.

Claire is now off to Marlborough College Summer School to teach for 4 weeks, classes will resume in October.

Online Art Workshops coming soon!

ONLINE ART WORKSHOPS WITH

CLAIRE WARNER!

You will be able to buy these VERY SOON from a new Treetops website and online shop.  An announcement will come to you via email.

We have 7 Workshops to offer you on our Launch date, with more to follow.

When you have chosen and bought a Workshop, you will be sent a private link to connect to your Workshop on your computer, ipad or even television if you have a Vimeo app.  You can watch in peace, press pause when you need to and rewind if you need to watch a section again.  It's yours to keep, it doesn't expire, just make sure you download your Workshop within 30 days.

There are Beginners, Intermediate and Advanced Workshops to choose from, and some suitable for all.  We have Watercolour and Pen & Wash to start you off with.  Claire will be teaching in her usual step by step style, for those of you that are used to coming to classes here at Treetops.  

You will also receive instruction notes, painting information, a workshop materials list and a selection of images as PDF's to accompany your Workshop.  We have thought of everything you may need.  (Just no cuppa or lunch from me sadly!)

We have put together a really useful Materials Box that you can buy, that includes the majority of the things you will need such as paper, paints, brushes, palettes, masking fluid etc.  It costs £75 (20% off the RRP).  If a workshop requires additional paint colours or texture paste the notes will let you know.

You can also buy packs of Saunders Waterford quality watercolour paper, Gerald's fantastic mounts along with Claire's Sketchpads and her wonderful watercolour paints.

As it's nearly Christmas we will also have Gift Vouchers available.  I have some festive tissue paper at the ready, to wrap anything you would like to gift someone.

We really can't wait to launch and to hear what you think of our new venture.  (Don't worry Treetops Classes will hopefully be resuming in early 2022 and we will continue to create more Workshops).

I must thank my two boys who have worked really hard behind the scenes; filming, photographing, editing and sound engineering the entire process.  Covid has hit those in their 20's who work in the Arts particularly badly, so it's been good to make use of their professional skills whilst they've been here!

Norfolk Sunsets in Watercolour

Last week with Claire we held a Watercolour class

Our subject was Sunsets 

It really was a lesson in colour and washes ... 

... lots of washes!

We had gorgeous moody skies

Beautiful fields, marshlands and windmills.

The paintings really show a peaceful finish to a lovely day.

Helping to simplify a complicated composition with an understanding of the tonal counterbalance to interpret shapes and details.  (Or painting, glueing, sticking!)  Good fun.

Venice Watercolour

This is such a popular subject and can sometimes be a difficult one to tackle.  But Claire will make it manageable and teach it via a step by step style.  The outcome will be a very effective and atmospheric painting.

Autumn Watercolour

Beautiful colours in the palettes for this painting.  Bold, warm and vibrant.  Come and get confident at applying colour.  Claire will provide a new image for 2017, so if you have painted Autumn with us before, this will be different.

Winter Scene

Monday 27 November

Using totally different colours to the previous class, this painting will be full of cool colours, with some warm tones softly applied.  This class sells out very quickly.  Many of our artists like to use the painting to print as their Christmas cards.

Winter Scene for Beginners & Refreshers

Friday 1 December

If you haven't painted for a long time or are completely new to Watercolours, this is the best class for you this term.  Claire will spend time introducing you to Watercolour; the brushes, paints, papers, washes and will show you step by step how to plan and paint your work of art. 

Pen & Wash

Tuesday 5 December

Pick up some useful drawing tips and experiment with different drawing techniques and pens.  Claire will have some great images for you to work on, and will help with applying washes to them to bring them to life.  It's a really helpful class for getting started or improving on your sketch book technique.

Winter Scene 2
